Zabar's Company Description
New York epicureans in search of bagels, coffee, smoked salmon, fine cheeses, and expensive kitchen gadgets go straight to specialty food purveyor Zabar's. The company operates the famous Zabar's store at 80th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a catalog, and a Web site for online shopping. Murray Klein, a part owner and the public face of Zabar's for more than 30 years died in 2007. Klein, who retired in 1994, helped transform the store from a Jewish deli to a West Side culinary and cultural landmark. Louis and Lillian Zabar founded the store in 1941, and two of their sons (Saul and Stanley) continue to run the company's operations.
