Z Corporation strives to be the last word in rapid prototyping. The company makes high-speed 3-D printers that generate high-precision physical prototypes of engineers' computer-aided design (CAD) models using starch- or plaster-based powders held together with binding agents. Its products are sold under the ZPrinter, ZBuilder, and ZScanner brands. The company operates internationally from offices in Denmark, and Japan. Its products are sold in about 60 countries. Its key markets include manufacturing, education, health care, and entertainment. Denmark-based Contex sold the company to rival 3D Systems for more than $134 million as part of a deal that included another Contex subsidiary, VIDAR Systems.
