YEInternational Competition
Now Viewing YEInternational's competition in: Electronic Components & Semiconductor Wholesalers (primary)
Recent Developments
Growth Predicted for Consumer Electronics - According to a survey by the Consumer Electronics Association, fourth quarter 2008 demand for consumer electronics is expected to rise 3.5 percent compared to the same period in 2007. Consumer electronics sales are a strong indicator of demand for wholesalers of electronic components and semiconductors. The survey suggests that 80 percent of adults and 84 percent of teens want electronics as gifts for the holiday season. Among the top 10 products consumers hope to get are computers, video game systems, cell phones, and MP3 players.
Semiconductor Sales Increase - Worldwide sales of semiconductors rose 7.6 percent in July 2008 compared to July 2007, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). The growth was driven by increased sales of consumer electronics, PCs, and cell phones, which together make up about 80 percent of demand for chips. Excluding memory products, which are in decline due to oversupply and price erosion, semiconductor sales increased nearly 12 percent.
Computer Producer, Consumer Prices Decline - US producer prices for computer and peripheral equipment dropped 6.7 percent in September 2008 compared to a year earlier; consumer prices for computers and peripherals fell 14.2 percent. As consumers and businesses spend more cautiously, the discrepancy in price drops between what producers receive for products and what consumers ultimately pay for them may suggest increased pricing competition among computer retailers and wholesalers.
Competitive Landscape
Demand for electronic components is driven largely by business and consumer purchases of computers and telecommunications equipment. The profitability of individual companies depends on business volume and correct merchandising, or stocking the products buyers want. Large companies have advantages through buying in high volume at discounted prices, more-efficient inventory management, and the ability to fulfill large customer orders. Small wholesalers can compete by offering specialized products or better service.
