Xantrex Technology has a zany devotion to helping power systems work better. The company develops inverters, backup power equipment, and other electrical power equipment. Its goods find their way into a variety of applications, including AC power systems in boats, RVs, and automobiles; power supplies for medical and semiconductor manufacturing; backup power systems for homes and businesses; and renewable energy systems, such as fuel cells, solar power plants, and wind farms. Customers include Applied Materials, BP Solar, Kyocera, RadioShack, and Volvo Trucks. In 2008 Xantrex Technology was acquired by Schneider Electric for about $500 million in cash.
