X-FAB Sarawak Company Description

X-FAB Sarawak (formerly 1st Silicon) marks the spot for semiconductor contract manufacturing in Malaysia. The company, which was founded in 1998, offers semiconductor foundry (contract manufacturing) services, including design, mask making, fabrication, sorting, packaging, and testing. It expanded its operations into Japan in 2005 with a sales office in Yokohama. The company's wafer fabrication facility (or fab) makes semiconductors on silicon wafers measuring 200mm (about 8 inches) across, and can produce more than 27,000 wafers per month. Customers include Atmel and Sharp. Multinational chip maker X-FAB Silicon Foundries acquired 1st Silicon in September 2006 and renamed the company.
