WL Homes Company Description
WL Homes built a Whole Lotta Homes in its day. Operating as John Laing Homes and with roots going back to 1848, the group is a homebuilder operating in California, Arizona, Colorado, and Texas. Dubai firm Emaar Properties acquired the company in 2006 and established the new Emaar Design Studio division to provide international services. The housing downturn hit John Laing Homes hard, with 2008 sales plummeting to less than a third of what they had been two years earlier. John Laing Homes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in early 2009. Later that year, the Bankruptcy Court ordered the company liquidated. A foreclosure auction was scheduled for mid-2009.
