Overview
Wistron manufactures by design. The company is a contract manufacturer of computer products, including notebook computers, desktop PCs, servers, PDAs, and set-top boxes. Wistron also offers printed circuit board assembly, design services, prototyping, compliance and reliability testing, and supply chain management. The company focuses on providing services to large computer firms such as Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and Microsoft. Wistron, once part of the DMS (design, manufacturing, and services) unit of Acer, was spun off in 2001. Acer owns nearly 9% of the company and accounts for 26% of sales. In 2008 Wistron bought the computer monitor business of Lite-On Technology for about $300 million in cash.
