WHAM-O Company Description
The Wham-O slingshot has scored more hits in its time than the Beatles. The company's slingshot was a smash, and other cultural icons followed: the Frisbee, Hula-Hoop, Hacky Sack, and Slip'n Slide. The Hula-Hoop turned 50 in mid-2008. The toy maker also offers other outdoor toys, kiddie Baskin-Robbins ice-cream makers, and surf and snow items under the MOREY Boogie and SLEDZ brands. Some 70 products are sold in toy and sporting goods stores worldwide. Founded in 1948 by Rich Knerr and Arthur "Spud" Melin, Wham-O was named for the sound made by slingshots hitting their marks. The firm is owned by Cornerstone Overseas Investment, based in Hong Kong.
