Wendel Investissement Company Description
It's not about steel any more. Wendel Investissement represents the fortunes of the Wendels, one of France's oldest industrial families, who founded a steel empire in the Alsace region in 1704. Wendel Investissement's investment strategy focuses on firms in heavy industry, and the firm has a few scattered other industries. Key holdings include Oranje-Nassau, a Netherlands-based company active in oil and gas exploration and real estate; US-based Deutsch, which makes electrical connectors; and technical services provider Bureau Veritas, which went public in 2007. The company sold book publisher Editis in 2008. Also that year Wendel increased its stake in building materials company Saint-Gobain to more than 20%.
