Washington Wizards Company Description

These Wizards know it takes more than a wave of the magic wand to win a basketball game. The Washington Wizards professional basketball franchise joined the National Basketball Association as the Chicago Packers in 1961. Founder Dave Trager moved the team to Baltimore in 1963, renaming the franchise the Bullets, but its only NBA title came in 1978 when the franchise played as the Washington Bullets. (It changed names again to the Wizards in 1997.) Abe Pollin, who has controlled the franchise since 1973, also has a stake in its home arena, the Verizon Center through his holding company Washington Sports & Entertainment. Lincoln Holdings, led by AOL executive Ted Leonsis, owns 45% of the team and its arena.
