Vestas Wind Systems and its subsidiaries annually manufacture and distribute well over 3,000 on-land and offshore wind turbines used to produce electricity; it offers installation, repair, and maintenance services, as well. Vestas has R&D centers in Denmark, India, Singapore, the UK, and the US. The company's first manufacturing site in the US will begin production in Colorado in 2010. Vestas is teamed up with Boeing on joint research projects. The company, which began manufacturing wind turbines in 1979, operates through a number of business units. The company gets more than half of its sales in Europe.
