Its operations are divided into five segments -- dredging, offshore services for the oil and gas industry, coastal construction, marine infrastructure, and land infrastructure. Van Oord traces its roots to a company first started by Govert van Oord in 1868. The current Van Oord was created from a merger between Ballast Ham Dredging and Van Oord ACZ in 2003. It has operations in 22 countries.
