Van Houtte Company Description
Van Houtte's gourmet coffee and coffee-service business has been percolating in North America since 1919. The firm, which is Canada's leading gourmet coffee maker, sells its specialty and gourmet coffees to more than 2,000 grocery stores, drug stores, and restaurants, some 74,000 workplaces, as well as in some 70 A.L. Van Houtte Café-Bistros and café-bars. (All of these stores are franchised.) Subsidiary VKI Technologies, which invented the single-cup coffee-brewing machine for offices, makes and sells consumer and commercial coffee-brewing systems. Van Houtte operates in the US through the Filterfresh Coffee Services subsidiary. In 2007 the company was sold to and taken priviate by iinvestment firm Littlejohn.
