Valmont Industries has the pole position. The company has four business segments: Engineered Support Structures (metal poles and other structures for the lighting and traffic and wireless communications industries); Irrigation (mechanized equipment for conservation and application of water and chemicals), which is sold under the Valley brand; Utility Support Structures (steel and concrete poles and other structures for the utility industry); and Coatings (galvanizing, anodizing, and other protective coatings for industrial applications). Other operations include the manufacture of tubular products and distribution of industrial fasteners. Founder Robert Daugherty owns about 20% of Valmont.
