Universal Music Enterprises
Overview
Universal Music Enterprises (UME) wants you to keep rockin' to the oldies. The domestic catalog management division of music conglomerate Universal Music Group (UMG) generates revenue from old recordings through such repackaging and marketing operations as Universal Chronicles (compilations and reissued albums distributed through traditional retail channels), and UTV Records (TV sales of repackaged CDs). Its Hip-O Records operates as an independent label creating compilation albums from sources outside the UMG corporate family. UME also creates custom recorded products for customers through its Special Markets unit. The division was launched by UMG in 1999.
