Overview

With dozens of health care facilities in nearly 40 states, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands, Universal Health Services (UHS) isn't quite ubiquitous, but it's working on it. One of the largest for-profit hospital operators in the nation, UHS owns or leases about two dozen acute care hospitals, several outpatient surgery centers, radiation therapy centers, and surgical facilities. UHS also operates about 200 psychiatric and substance abuse hospitals. In total the company's houses more than 15,000 licensed beds. Its operations are located mostly in smaller towns and cities with limited competition, but it does have facilities in a few larger markets, (Las Vegas, Memphis, and Austin, Texas.)
