Unipetrol Company Description

Unipetrol covers the universe of petroleum businesses in the Czech Republic. The company is the country's major petrochemical concern, with controlling stakes in leading refineries and chemical plants. Unipetrol acquired and integrated joint-stock companies Kaučuk, Chemopetrol, Benzina (the country's largest gas-station network), Paramo, Koramo, Česka rafinérská, Unipetrol Trade, Unipetrol Rafinérie, and Spolana as a way to compete with multinational petrochemical enterprises. In 2005 the Czech government sold its 63% stake in Unipetrol to Polish refinery giant PKN ORLEN for about $480 million.
