In union, there is strength, and Unión Fenosa's strength is supplying electricity in Spain. Unión Fenosa is the country's third-largest electric utility (behind Endesa and Iberdrola); the company has 11,700 MW of generating capacity, primarily in Spain. Its regulated power distribution assets are located in the Spanish provinces of Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, and Madrid. Unión Fenosa also has electricity and gas utility interests in Latin America and the Middle East. It has 9.1 million electricity and gas customers worldwide (including 3.6 million in Spain and Portugal). In 2008 construction company ACS agreed to sell its controlling 45% stake in Unión Fenosa to Gas Natural.
