UDR (formerly United Dominion Realty Trust) is a real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns and operates more than 170 multi-family apartment communities with approximately 50,000 units. Through joint ventures, it owns about 40 more properties with nearly 10,000 units. It properties are primarily located in fast-growing urban markets in the South, West, and Northeast; more than half of its income comes from California, Oregon, Washington, and metro Washington, DC. The acquisitive REIT's strategy is to continue to increase its presence in markets that have strong job growth but high single-family home prices.
