UAW Company Description

At contract time, the International Union, UAW stands up (or sits down across the table) on behalf of some 640,000 active members and 500,000 retirees. The UAW (officially, the United Automobile, Aerospace, and Agricultural Implement Workers of America), represents workers at large and small companies, universities, and government agencies. The union has about 3,100 contracts with some 2,000 employers in the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Along with negotiating over wages, benefits, and working conditions, the UAW provides education and training programs for its members, who belong to about 800 local unions. The organization was founded in Detroit in 1935.
