UAB Highlands Company Description

A hospital by any other name might still be pretty much the same. UAB Highlands Hospital (formerly HealthSouth Medical Center) is a general acute-care hospital with nearly 220 licensed beds and 20 operating rooms. Community-based doctors and ones affiliated with the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) provide many of the hospital's services, which include pain treatment and workplace injury management and rehabilitation programs, and the only gamma knife treatment center in the state. UAB Highlands was one of 10 acute-care hospitals until its one-time parent, HealthSouth Corporation, sold HealthSouth Medical Center and its campus to the UAB Health System in 2006.
