Overview
Tronox believes in white magic. Billing itself as the world's fifth-largest producer of titanium dioxide (DuPont and Huntsman are among other top players), it sells its products under the TRONOX brand. Its titanium dioxide is used as a whitening pigment in coatings, plastics, and paper. Manufacturing some 425,000 metric tons per year, the company racks up mosts of its sales through titanium dioxide production but also sells electrolytic and specialty chemicals. In 2011, having earlier sought protection from debt and liabilities following its 2006 spinoff from Kerr-McGee, Tronox emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It also agreed to acquire the mineral sands business of South Africa-based Exxaro Resources.
