Famed East track coach dies [Wichita Eagle (KS)](25 Nov 2008 03:00:00 EST)Nov. 25--When J.D. Edmiston took over as East's track and cross country coach in the fall of 1964, Jim Ryun was a senior. Already, Ryun was well-known. "He showed a lot of courage and did a great job during a very important time in my life," Ryun said of Edmiston, who died Saturday at age 80. Former East runner Randy Smith recalled Mr. Edmiston as a fair, trustworthy man.
