The Internet is made up of way more than 12 tribes. Tribe Networks operates Tribe.net, a Web site through which people can create profiles and join networks (or "tribes"). These networks represent offline communities whose membership is based on common goals or interests, such as shared professional skills, hobby groups, or college alumni connections. Members can post listings for jobs, housing, events, and merchandise, as well as recommendations for local favorite places and services. Tribe Networks serves more than 50 metropolitan markets. CEO Mark Pincus founded the company in 2003. Original investors include Mayfield,The Washington Post Company, and Knight-Ridder (which was purchased by McClatchy in 2006).
