Transocean specializes in deepwater drilling and it isn't afraid of harsh environments. The company operates in the world's major offshore oil-producing regions, including Africa, Asia, Brazil, Canada, India, the Middle East, the Gulf of Mexico, and the North Sea. It has a fleet of 139 mobile offshore drilling units, including 68 floaters (semisubmersibles and drillships), 67 jackup rigs, and four other rigs. Transocean's other operations include management of third-party drilling services. Major customers include BP and Chevron. In 2007 it acquired GlobalSantaFe for almost $18 billion.
