Overview
It is oil in the sands that beckons Total E&P Joslyn (formerly Deer Creek Energy) to the harsh climate of northern Alberta. The company is an Athabasca oil sands development concern that uses horizontal drilling techniques and steam to develop oil sands and produce oil. Total E&P Joslyn holds an 74% working interest in and is the operator of more than 50,000 acres in Oil Sands Lease 24 and Permit 70, collectively known as the Joslyn Project. Total E&P Joslyn's primary asset, the Joslyn Project is in the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo, some 50 miles north of Fort McMurray. Total E&P Canada, a subsidiary of TOTAL S.A., acquired the company in 2005 and took the company private.
