Overview

The Norse gods might have laughed at the idea of bedrooms on wheels, but that doesn't stop Thor Industries, a recreation vehicle builder. Through its subsidiaries, the company makes and sells a range of RVs, from motor homes to travel trailers, as well as related parts. Brands include Airstream and Dutchmen. Thor is also a major US producer of small and midsize buses. Bus and RV manufacturing plants generally produce vehicles to dealer order; Thor's independent dealers dot the US and Canada catering to private purchasers and municipalities. The company drives a joint venture with Cruise America, renting vacation RVs. Thor rolled out in 1980 when Wade Thompson and Peter Orthwein purchased Airstream's business.
