Overview

THOMSON's business is changing from providing the electronic gadgets that entertain consumers (TVs, home theater systems, DVD players) to providing technical services that support entertainment content providers. The firm sold its unprofitable TV business, which made RCA- and Thomson-branded sets, in order to focus on content creation, management, and delivery. Its Technicolor subsidiary provides digital production, post-production, and content media management, as well as electronic content distribution and DVD replication services. THOMSON provides set-top boxes, modems, and networking solutions through its Thomson Connect unit, while its Technology unit is devoted to licensing, research, and software.
