Overview
As Australia's #1 telecommunications carrier, Telstra provides fixed-line services to about 8 million access lines, and it serves 12 million mobile phone customers. It is also the country's leading ISP, through BigPond, with more than 5 million broadband subscribers. Telstra's largest market is consumer and residential customers, but its business and government segment comes in a close second. The company also provides wholesale network services to other communications companies, while its Sensis telephone directory unit specializes in print, online, and wireless advertising. Telstra owns half of pay-television operator FOXTEL, while News Corp. and Consolidated Media Holdings each own 25% of the joint venture.
