Telefónica Móviles Company Description
Telefónica Móviles is on the move. The wireless arm of Spanish carrier Telefónica provides services to nearly 100 million customers under the Movistar brand. It operates in 15 countries across three continents (In Spain it is the #1 mobile carrier with more than 20 million customers). Telefónica Móviles also manages operations for its parent in Chile and Puerto Rico; operates a joint venture with Portugal Telecom (Brasilcel, marketed as Vivo) for holdings in Brazil and Morocco; and holds UMTS licenses for Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. In 2006, Telefónica bought the remaining 7% of the company that it did not already own and the wireless operations were combined with those of Telefónica.
