Overview
The next call that Telefónica del Perú (TDP) answers could be news of another competitor. Peruvian regulators are committed to opening up the telecom market, but the former monopoly still controls much of the market offering local fixed-line service through 2 million installed lines. TDP also handles domestic and international long-distance phone calls, provides cable TV, and operates 100,000 public pay phones. Wireless subscriptions and pre-paid services are sold under the Movistar brand. Additionally, TDP offers data services to small and medium-sized companies. Spanish telecommunications giant Telefónica owns 97% of the company.
