Tejon Ranch Company Description

Tejon Ranch took stock and sold the herd. Historically one of the biggest cattle ranches in the US, Tejon Ranch decided its future is in real estate and in 2001 sold the last of its livestock operations. Although livestock accounted for 75% of revenues as recently as 2000, and farming activities still account for about half of its business, the company's approximately 270,000 acres are now the site of residential and commercial development. In 2008 Tejon Ranch stuck a deal with major environmental groups to conserve about 90 % of the vast chunk of open land, or about 240,000 acres, some 60 miles north of Los Angeles. The company's directors, through equity investment firms, control around 46% of Tejon Ranch.
