Teekay LNG Company Description
A spinoff of tanker operator Teekay Corporation, Teekay LNG transports liquefied natural gas (LNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and crude oil. Overall, the company operates more than 15 vessels, which are chartered under long-term fixed-rate contracts, largely to Spanish oil and gas companies. Some of the first vessels in its fleet were obtained through Teekay Corporation's 2004 acquisition of Spanish LNG carrier Naviera F. Tapias, later renamed Teekay Spain and made a subsidiary of Teekay LNG. Teekay Corporation owns the general partner of Teekay LNG and retains a majority interest in the company, which was spun off in a 2005 IPO.
