The company is the world's #2 market research provider, behind Nielsen. TNS, which serves customers in some 80 countries, offers market data on such industries as the automotive business, consumer products and retail sales, the financial services industry, health care, and information technology. TNS also measures television audience ratings in 25 countries in addition to other media measurement services, and it provides a variety of polling and survey data. In October 2008, TNS capitulated to being acquired by conglomerate WPP, after months of declining its advances.
