India's largest industrial conglomerate the Tata Group runs more than 90 companies in seven main business sectors: chemicals, communications and IT, consumer products, energy, engineering, materials, and services. Two of its largest operations are steelmaking, through Tata Steel, and vehicle manufacturing (Tata Motors). Tata Tea is one of the largest tea producers in the world and owns the venerable Tetley brand. Tata Steel acquired Corus Group for $12.2 billion, which created the sixth-largest steel company in the world, and made an even bigger splash with the 2008 acquisition of Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford. The group is managed through holding company Tata Sons.
