TAROM Romanian Air Transport
Overview
Romanian Air Transport, better known as TAROM, rules the tarmac in Bucharest. The government-controlled airline transports folks and cargo to more than 50 destinations in Africa, Asia, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and the US. It also offers tourism packages through TAROM Tours and provides charter services for tourist and other groups. TAROM, which has a fleet of about 25 aircraft, extends its network via code-sharing agreements with airlines such as Aeroflot, Air France, and Alitalia. TAROM has applied to join the SkyTeam marketing alliance led by Delta and Air France-KLM. The Romanian government and the ministry of transportation own 95% of TAROM, which has been in operation since 1954.
