Overview
Transporturi Aeriene Romane, better known as TAROM, rules the tarmac in Bucharest. The government-controlled airline transports folks and cargo to more than 40 destinations, including most major European cities, plus Africa, Asia, Canada, the Middle East, Russia, and the US. It also offers tourism packages through Tarom Tours and provides charter services for tourist and other groups. TAROM, which has a fleet of more than 20 aircraft, extends its European network with code-sharing agreements with airlines such as includes Aeroflot, Air France, and Alitalia. The Romanian government and the Ministry of Transportation own 95% of TAROM, which has been in operation since 1954.
