Taro Company Description
Generic drugs are Taro's future. Taro Pharmaceutical Industries makes generic and proprietary drugs and OTC products used to treat skin conditions, epilepsy, heart problems, and other ailments. The company specializes in topical corticosteroids; products include a generic version of Schering-Plough's Lotrisone cream. It also makes teril carbamazepine tablets that are equivalent to Tegretol, Novartis' epilepsy drug. Other drugs include Warfarin Sodium tablets for treating heart disease and preventing strokes. Taro agreed in 2007 to be acquired by Indian drugmaker Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, but Taro terminated the deal the next year. Sun Pharma continues to push for a hostile takeover.
