Swift Transportation Company Description
Swift, but within the speed limit, truckload carrier Swift Transportation hauls freight such as building materials, paper products, and retail merchandise throughout the US and in Mexico. The company operates a fleet of about 18,000 tractors and 48,000 trailers from a network of about 40 terminals. Its services include dedicated contract carriage, in which drivers and equipment are assigned to a customer long-term. Besides standard dry vans, Swift's fleet includes refrigerated, flatbed, and other specialized trailers, as well as about 5,800 intermodal containers. Chairman and CEO Jerry Moyes owns the company, which he founded in 1966, took public, and took private again in 2007.
