SurModics Company Description
SurModics doesn't want to scratch the surface of the medical device market -- it just wants to coat it with its own special agent. The company makes special coatings for medical devices that make them easier to use, less traumatic to the body, and even useful in delivering drugs to patients. Its PhotoLink surface modification technology makes catheters and other devices slippery and easier to maneuver; PhotoLink-treated products also can be coated with drugs such as heparin, in order to reduce the incidence of blood clots. The company's Bravo polymer coating is used on Cordis' drug-coated coronary stent (among other products) and delivers drugs that prevent re-narrowing of the artery.
