Overview

SunOpta shines in several industries. The company operates in food production and distribution business through its SunOpta Food Group, which produces, processes, markets, and distributes natural, organic, and kosher food products, as well as fresh berries. The company also owns 66% of Opta Minerals, which recycles industrial waste, makes abrasives and bentonite clays for foundries, and makes those little granules that are on roof shingles. SunOpta's BioProcess group makes a steam-explosion system that separates cellulose and non-wood fibers for use in the production of pulp and ethanol.
