Sumitomo Trust and Banking Company -- part of Japan's Sumitomo keiretsu (a group of Japanese firms linked by cross-ownership) -- manages funds for institutional investors and pension funds, provides loans and securities investment, and manages and appraises real estate and land trusts. Among its nearly 40 group companies and joint ventures there are businesses involved in credit cards, mortgage guaranty, leasing, and small business lending. Sumitomo Trust also owns one-third of securities management joint venture Japan Trustee Services Bank. Sumitomo Trust and Banking, which has about 60 locations throughout Japan, also has operations in Europe, the US, and other areas of Asia.
