Sucampo Company Description
Sucampo Pharmaceuticals works to alleviate some of life's more, ahem, uncomfortable conditions. Sucampo works with a group of compounds derived from fatty acids called prostones; it uses prostones in the development of therapies for the treatment of age-related gastrointestinal, respiratory, vascular, and central nervous system disorders. Its lead product AMITIZA (lubiprostone) received FDA approval in 2006 for the treatment of chronic constipation in adults. Other applications for AMITIZA, including treatment of irritable bowel syndrome, are in the works. Sucampo is jointly developing and commercializing AMITIZA in the US and Canada with Takeda Pharmaceutical Company.
