St. Louis Cardinals Company Description

Fans of these Cardinals have really been flying high in recent years. The St. Louis Cardinals is one of the oldest teams in Major League Baseball, joining the National League as the St. Louis Browns in 1892. Renamed the Cardinals in 1900, the team has gone on to win 17 league pennants and 10 World Series championships, its last in 2006. The team dominated the NL in the 1980s with such stars as Willie McGee and Ozzie Smith, but declined in the early 1990s. A revival has come under manager Tony La Russa, which has helped draw some of the biggest crowds in the majors. An investment group led by St. Louis attorney Fred Hanser, Andrew Baur, and William DeWitt Jr. owns the team.
