Feeling dumb-struck by high fuel prices? Maybe a smart is the car for you. A subsidiary of Daimler AG, smart is a maker of mini cars. It currently offers one model: the smart fortwo (two-seater) with minor variations such as a hybrid motor. Daimler wanted to bring the smart brand to the US in 2006, but cancelled the plan as smart has lost money since it was introduced in 1998. Daimler has since decided to bring continue its plan to bring the car to the US. Plans to bring the brand to China, however, are on hold. Daimler has infused the small car unit with $1.55 billion to restructure the struggling division. The company has ceased production of the smart roadster and the the larger forfour.
