Skilled Healthcare Group (formerly SHG Holding Solutions) doesn't give its elderly clients the fountain of youth, but the nursing home operator does help them live their lives more comfortably. The company operates about 75 skilled nursing facilities and about 15 assisted-living centers in six states; its facilities have more than 10,000 beds in all. Through its nursing homes, the company specializes in providing medically intensive care for sicker elderly patients, such as those recovering from stroke or hip replacement surgery. Skilled Healthcare also provides rehabilitation services and hospice care through other divisions. Previously owned by Onex, the company went public in 2007.
