Sime Darby Company Description
Malaysia's oldest and largest conglomerate, Sime Darby started in rubber and stretched out from there. Its core business activities include the sale of autos (BMW, Ford, Land Rover) and heavy equipment (Caterpillar); tire manufacturing; oil palm and rubber plantations; production of edible oils; residential and commercial property development; and the construction and operation of power plants. The general trading arm distributes products, such as advanced composite materials, auto parts, and sealants. It also has stakes in hotels, hypermarkets, and medical facilities. Germany-based tire maker Continental AG acquired a 30% stake in Sime Darby's tire operations with an option to purchase a larger share.
