Sikorsky Company Description
Russian-born helicopter pioneer Igor Sikorsky is long dead, but helicopters bearing his name still fly the skies. A subsidiary of United Technologies, Sikorsky Aircraft's military helicopters include the Black Hawk, used for troop assault, combat support, special operations, and medevac operations; and the Seahawk, used for submarine hunting, missile targeting, anti-surface ship warfare, and search and rescue. Sikorsky's heavy lift helicopter, the H-53, is in the process of being replaced by the next-generation CH-53K. Civil products include the S-76 and S-92, which are used for rescue, offshore oil, hospital, and corporate use.
