The company was the subject of a bidding war between Norway's FERD and New Zealand's Rank Group Ltd. in late 2006 and early 2007; FERD dropped out of the battle after Rank Group made a $2.3 billion offer. Rank Group has acquired about 98% of SIG through its share offer.
