Siemens Product Lifecycle Management Software (formerly UGS PLM Software) provides product lifecycle management (PLM) packages, a category of design and collaboration software. Customers include many of the world's largest auto makers, which were among the first manufacturers to adopt PLM. Siemens PLM Software is one of the biggest suppliers in the PLM market, competing with the CATIA duo of Dassault and IBM. The company was spun off from EDS in 1998 and publicly held for three years. In 2007 the company was acquired by Siemens for about $3.5 billion, operating as a division of Siemens Automation and Drives.
