The boutique investment bank focuses on the financial services sectors, offering a wide range of services, such as mergers and acquisitions advisory, IPO underwriting, and capital raising. It also handles the demutualization process for insurance companies and thrifts. Sandler O'Neill provides its clients with research, trading, and sales services for bonds and securities of financial services firms. It lost more than a third of its employees -- including co-founder Herman Sandler -- in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, but has persevered. The firm was founded in 1988.
